fall 2024 semester.

September 16-19, 2024, was National Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week. The week is designed to raise public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy. In recognition of the week, Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) highlighted one of its adult education students, Rita Thompson.

Thompson is working on a business and office technology (BOT) degree at Mississippi Delta Community College. She enrolled in the MDCC Adult Education program through the Greenville WIN Job Center in March 2023. Thompson worked diligently to earn her National Career Readiness Credential in April 2023 and her High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma in June 2023, before enrolling in the Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MIBEST) program to enter MDCC’s BOT program. Because of the MDCC Adult Education and the MIBEST program, Thompson was able to earn her HSE and begin her career pathway, where she is reportedly currently excelling. She holds a 3.8 GPA and is an acting member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where she was elected treasurer by her class.
