Red Storm rises: Leland 7th grader honored in statewide art awards

The 2025 Scholastic Art Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and sponsored locally by Atmos Energy, drew submissions from more than 427 Mississippi students, with over 1,111 works entered for regional adjudication. Awards were presented in the visual‑arts categories statewide, with several tiers of recognition: Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention.

Among the honorees was seventh-grade Leland homeschooler Fred Delhom, who received an Honorable Mention for his watercolor titled The Red Storm. As the youngest eligible grade, he was one of only two seventh graders to receive awards in the visual‑arts competition.
