Karr named Woman of the Year by Greenville Rotary Club
Congratulations to Margaret Karr, instructor at the MDCC Greenville Campus, for being named Woman of the Year by the Rotary Club Of Greenville, Mississippi. This honor recognizes her dedication to education, leadership and service in our community. MDCC is proud to have educators like Ms. Karr who make a lasting impact on students and the Delta region.

Congratulations to MDCC Greenville Campus’ own, Margaret Karr, on being selected as Rotary’s 2026 Woman of the Year at this year’s Women in Rotary recognition program. Karr was among 4 outstanding women from around the state selected for this year’s recognition at the Rotary Club of Jackson. Karr was joined in the capital city by members of her family, her classmates, and fellow Greenville Rotarians! Kudos Instructor Karr on a job well done.

HONOREE BIO:
Margaret Karr has been a lifelong resident of Greenville, Mississippi; she and her late husband Jim took an active part in the communities of the Mississippi Delta. Margaret started her career in teaching in 1972 after graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi. She later earned her Masters in English Education Degree from Delta State University in 1973. After her early years of teaching at Washington School, she later became General Sales Manager for her husband who was part owner of WNIX, WIQQ and WBAQ Radio Stations in Greenville. She was Radio Personality of the Year for three years in a row; she won the Silver Medallion Award from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters. That group later awarded her a lifetime achievement award in broadcasting. After her husband’s death in 2008, Margaret returned to teaching for Mississippi Delta Community College at the Greenville campus. Her classes included Comp1, Improvement of Study, American Literature and World Literature. She was the winner of the 2010 TYCAM Durrett Award for the top adjunct English instructor within the Mississippi Community Colleges.
Her Rotary duties included President of the Greenville Rotary Club in 2011, Program Chairman for the club for many years, as well as serving on various boards for Rotary and finally earning her 5-star ruby pin from the Paul Harris Foundation. She has almost thirty years in the Greenville Rotary Club. Her love in Rotary is announcing the winners of the 4-Way Test competition every spring where students from six high schools in the Washington County area are awarded scholarships.
She is presently still teaching at Miss. Delta Community College on the Greenville campus and is fulltime organist for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Leland. Her hobbies include playing bridge every week and traveling to see the grandchildren in the summer.
