“To help bees, plant trees”: Garden Club marks Earth Day month

The Leland Deer Creek Garden Club gathered for its April meeting with a fitting spring theme: female worker bees, highlighting the essential role they play in pollination and the health of local ecosystems.
Amanda Delperdang of the Delta Nature and Learning Center noted the organization is preparing to welcome bees as well.
Members are now turning their attention to upcoming events.
A community Earth Day cleanup is planned for April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon, organized by Amanda and the Nature Center. Lora Delhom will coordinate Leland’s local setup, with garbage bags distributed and counted as part of the ongoing grant effort. Additional information will be announced.
The Garden Club is seeking volunteers to help staff its table at Frog Fest on May 9. Two shifts are available: 9:30 a.m. to noon and noon to 2:30 p.m. The group will serve “Kermit Creek water” during the event.
Garden Club dues of $60 are due before the May 16 banquet. With new members joining, organizers encourage the community to get involved with beautification efforts around town.
