MDCC Sophomore Sophie O’Neal Named MSU Presidential Partnership Scholar, Earns National Academic Honor

O'NealMississippi Delta Community College sophomore Sophie O’Neal of Greenwood has been named a Presidential Partnership Scholarship recipient at Mississippi State University, earning a prestigious award that will cover the cost of full-time tuition for two years, totaling more than $20,000.

The Presidential Partnership Scholarship is awarded to select community college transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa and who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership. Recipients are nominated by their community college president and selected by the MSU Scholarship Committee.

In addition to this honor, O’Neal has been named to the first team of the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team, a national recognition that highlights high-achieving students who combine academic excellence with leadership and service that extends beyond the classroom. The All-USA Academic Team is awarded by nomination only and recognizes both transfer and workforce students across the country.

At Mississippi Delta, O’Neal is an active member of the Honors College and serves as Vice President of Leadership for the Zeta Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Through her involvement, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic success, campus leadership, and community engagement.

O’Neal will graduate from Mississippi Delta Community College next week with an Associate of Arts degree in Biological Sciences, earning magna cum laude honors.

Following graduation, she plans to transfer to Mississippi State University, where she will major in animal and dairy sciences. Her long-term goal is to pursue a career as a veterinarian.
