The 1902 Brocante brings European café style to downtown Leland

The 1902 Brocante recently opened in downtown Leland inside the restored former Leland Hardware Co. building.
A new retail and dining concept blending antiques, florals and café fare has opened in downtown Leland, offering a European-inspired experience in the Mississippi Delta.
Dr. Misty Galloway, a Missouri Bootheel native with a doctorate in strategic leadership, debuted The 1902 Brocante in May in a restored historic building at 205 North Broad Street.
The nearly 4,000-square-foot space combines a bistro, coffee bar, floral market and antique retail shop under one roof.
Galloway and her husband, Jerry, purchased the building in early 2025 and began restoring the structure, which previously served as a storage facility and law office.
“The structural features of the building needed lots of love,” Galloway said. “It took time and attention to restore her to her former beauty.”

The Brocante expands the couple’s growing footprint in Leland’s historic district. In 2023, they purchased and redesigned The Thompson House Inn, a boutique hotel that includes The 1902 T.H. Restaurant & Bar.
The family operates the businesses together. Their daughter, Bella Gehrke, and her husband, Miller, manage the inn, while their daughter Sophie works in hospitality and as a barista at the Brocante.
Galloway said the concept draws from the family’s travels and their appreciation for food, design and historic spaces.

“We enjoy discovering great cuisine and spending time in eclectic espresso bars and bistros,” she said. “We wanted to bring that experience to the Delta.”
The shop features curated antiques and vintage pieces sourced both domestically and internationally, along with fresh floral arrangements, coffee and French-style pastries and sandwiches.
Galloway said the atmosphere is central to the concept.
“We want our patrons to feel transported, to enjoy the ambiance of a European café while shopping,” she said.

In addition to sourcing items themselves, Galloway and her husband work with pickers across the United States and Europe and collaborate with local artists to offer handcrafted goods.
The design aesthetic reflects Galloway’s interest in historic preservation and layered interiors.
“I love old architecture, textiles and antiques,” she said. “I like mixing those with new elements to create a classic Southern space with a sense of history.”
The Brocante is part of a broader effort to revitalize historic properties in Leland. The family is developing another project, The Cottage at 303, a bed-and-breakfast planned along Deer Creek and expected to open in 2027.
The 1902 Brocante is open Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
