Lagniappe wins MS Heritage Award

lagniappe trio with awardThe Smythe family has been involved in Leland for a long time now. Sherry Smythe, owner of Lagniappe, has put in a lot of work and effort in the revitalization efforts of downtown Leland. Her business, which originally began in Leland, was later moved to Greenville. However, in recent years, Sherry and her family worked to restore some historic buildings in downtown Leland so that they could move Lagniappe back.

Utilizing Federal and State Historic Tax Credits, the Smythe family project transformed six vacant downtown buildings into a bookstore, wellness center, gift shop and interior design business, while preserving the historic character of the district.

Sherry is also very involved in the Leland Chamber of Commerce, most notably for her work to transform Christmas on Deer Creek into the large event that it is today. Town leaders and community members say they are thankful for Sherry and her family’s efforts to help improve the city of Leland and offer their congratulations to her on this amazing achievement.
