WCLS planning songwriting workshop for young creators
The Washington County Library System (WCLS) is hosting a songwriting workshop in April. The event is scheduled to be three hours long and is open to the public. The workshop will be held April 12, from 1 until 4 p.m. at the William Alexander Percy Memorial Library. All fourth through twelfth grade students are welcome.
Students are encouraged to attend and discover the joy of songwriting as they create their very own original songs. Whether they play an instrument or not, the workshop is designed to spark creativity, inspire self-expression, and build musical skills.
Why should kids join?
- Boosts creativity: Encourages young minds to think outside the box and express themselves through music.
- Improves problem-solving: Writing lyrics and melodies enhances critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Fosters emotional expression: Songwriting allows children to explore and communicate their emotions in a healthy, creative way.
- Builds confidence: Completing an original song and sharing it with others helps increase self-esteem and confidence.
- Introduces STEAM concepts: Students will engage with music as an art form, but also practice skills in technology, engineering (in terms of sound design), and math (in rhythm and structure).
- Community connection: Work-ing in a group encourages collaboration and builds social skills, fostering a sense of belonging in the community.
This is more than just a workshop—it’s a chance to explore the world of music, creativity, and STEAM, all while having a blast.
