Leland-Deer Creek Garden Club wins seven awards at annual convention

The 96th Annual Convention of The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. (GCM) convened in Grenada during the week of April 7. This gathering attracted over two hundred members from affiliated garden clubs across the state, underscoring the organization’s enduring commitment to beautification, conservation and education.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of awards recognizing outstanding achievements by local clubs and individual members. These accolades celebrated exemplary projects in community beautification, youth engagement and environmental conservation, reflecting the organization’s dedication to fostering positive change throughout Mississippi.
The Leland-Deer Creek Garden Club was recognized with the following seven awards: Yearbook, first place; Garden Therapy Program, first place; Radio/TV Program, first place; Carrie Avent Bird Award, second place; Environmental Education Award, first place; Yearbook Award (Deep South Regional), second place; and Civic Achievement, first place.

The convention featured a diverse array of workshops and presentations led by esteemed horticulturists and floral designers. The sessions provided attendees with insights into innovative gardening techniques, sustainable practices and the latest trends in landscape design. Such educational opportunities are central to the organization’s mission of connecting gardeners and promoting environmental stewardship.
