Delta State alumnus Rory Doyle receives James Beard Foundation Award

Tracy Hollins Harden and the James Beard Foundation Medal
DSU is proud to share that alumnus Rory Doyle has received a James Beard Foundation Award in narrative photography. His powerful images tell the story of Chuck’s Dairy Bar in Rolling Fork, Mississippi — a story of resilience, community, and hope in the face of hardship. Congratulations on this incredible achievement and for shining a light on the strength of the Mississippi Delta.
In Rory’s words:
“Not sure where to begin! Just got home after receiving a James Beard Foundation Award in narrative photography, a result that I candidly didn’t expect after the nomination came in. It feels wrong to pat oneself on the back — especially when this award is sincerely about coexistence, Tracy Hollins Harden, her team, Chuck’s Dairy Bar, Rolling Fork and the lower Mississippi Delta. Tracy, thank you for allowing me into your life despite all the hardships Chuck’s and the community have faced. This is also a story that goes beyond suffering — it’s about persistence, rebirth, collective good and hope. This one’s for y’all. Thank you James Beard Foundation, and I also need to thank Marisol L Doyle for being my constant supporter.”
