buildingAfter delighting millions since its debut in May 1991, Muppet*Vision 3D has officially closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The attraction, Jim Henson’s final creative project, offered a whimsical blend of 3D film, in‑the‑ater “4D” effects, animatronics, and live performances. Its farewell marked the end of an era for fans of Henson’s iconic characters.

Historic Finale
The final curtain came down on June 7, 2025, capping a 34-year run that began precisely one year after Henson’s passing. Guests on the last day witnessed the full pre-show and main feature, including Kermit’s trademark tour through Muppet Labs, Bunsen and Beaker’s antics, Statler and Waldorf’s quips, and a trademark chaotic finale involving the Swedish Chef’s oversized cannon.

Family Tribute
In a poignant moment, Heather Henson, Jim’s daughter, attended the final performance and was the last person to exit the theatre. Disney credited the attraction as “a one‑of‑a‑kind Jim Henson experience, and an unforgettable capstone to Jim’s magnificent career.”

Fan Farewells
Muppet superfans converged on the studio in emotional gatherings, with candlelit vigils, themed prom nights, and a collective chorus of “Rainbow Connection” echoing through the Grand Arts Theatre plaza. One devoted visitor from Buffalo noted: “I was all cried out,” after watching several showings and purchasing souvenirs.

A Land Reimagined
The closure paves the way for a Monsters, Inc. themed expansion, part of Disney’s broader plan to reimagine Hollywood Studios. While Muppets fans expressed disappointment, Disney confirmed the beloved characters will remain in the park. They’ll relocate to a newly themed version of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, set to debut in 2026.

Looking Ahead
Although the Muppet*Vision theatre has closed, Disney promises Muppet presence across its parks. In addition to the forthcoming ride retheme, smaller nods already exist in Epcot and California Adventure.
