Leland-Deer Creek Garden Club shares the wonder of Monarch butterflies

Recently, Washington School welcomed special visitors from the Leland-Deer Creek Garden Club, who brought monarch butterflies in the caterpillar stage to our school. Patti Livingston and Gwin Cumbaa read the Dr. Seuss book “My, Oh My—A Butterfly! All About Butterflies” and taught students in grades 1, 2, and 3 about the life cycle of a butterfly. The students had the opportunity to observe the caterpillars up close. Over the next few days, all Lower School students were be able to visit the caterpillars in the STEM Lab as they prepared to transform into chrysalises and eventually emerge as beautiful butterflies. The school loves having visitors, especially grandmothers, come and teach the students.
