RIP David Odell

ToughPigs is saddened to report that screenwriter David Odell recently passed away at the age of 83.

Odell joined the writing staff of The Muppet Show in its third season, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program in 1980. He won the award in 1981 along with co-writers Jerry Juhl and Chris Langham. On the film side, he received a “Special Thanks” credit in The Muppet Movie, and wrote the screenplay for The Dark Crystal and the unproduced sequel Power of the Dark Crystal. He also appeared in the documentaries Of Muppets and Men: The Making of The Muppet Show and Reflections of the Dark Crystal. Beyond the worlds of Jim Henson, he wrote the screenplays for such films as Running Scared, Supergirl (1984) and Masters of the Universe (1987), along with television series including Tales from the Darkside and Monsters. We’re grateful his imagination led to such great things.
