AROUND THE CORNER with Justin Medders
By Keri Baldwin
Justin Medders grew up in Terry, Mississippi, just outside of Jackson, but was familiar with the Delta from a young age, having visited family in Boyle during the summers and holidays. Medders says he felt God calling him to the ministry in high school, and he has been doing ministry ever since. Medders’ greatest joy in life is his family – his wife Brooke, 5-year-old daughter Avery and 5-month-old daughter Harper.
1. ARE YOU A NATIVE OF LELAND? IF YES, HOW LONG HAS YOUR FAMILY BEEN HERE? IF NOT, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE LELAND? No, I moved here because First Baptist Church Leland called me to be their Pastor.
2. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES? I enjoy fishing, kayaking and love college football, specifically Ole Miss Football. Lately, just
spending time with family and doing whatever my daughters want to do is how I spend most of my time!
3. ARE YOU A READER? ARE YOU READING ANYTHING CURRENTLY? Yes, I really enjoy reading. I am currently reading The Two Towers
by J.R.R Tolkien and The Gospel Driven Church by Jared Wilson.
4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL INTEREST IN MUSIC? WHAT GENRES? I enjoy all different types of music, despite my lack of musical ability.
5. HOW ABOUT MOVIES OR THEATER? I do enjoy a good movie, as well. Anything that tells a story well captures my attention.
6. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE WINNINGS IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY? I would pay off my debt and make sure my family would be taken care of for multiple generations, and then find good causes to give to.
7. HOW WOULD YOU CHANGE THE WORLD? I would change the world by having people follow Christ. I truly believe that following Christ
is beneficial for everyone and the world!
8. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? My favorite food is definitely chicken! I have not found a chicken dish I haven’t enjoyed.
9. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON AND WHY? My favorite season right now is fall. It’s not so hot, college football is in full swing; it just can’t be beat!
10. DO YOU PREFER MOUNTAIN OR BEACH VACATIONS? I prefer the mountains. I spent four summers in the Smoky Mountains as a camp counselor, and they were some of the best summers I ever had!
