Delta State Men’s Golf Placed Runner-Up at Montevallo Invitational

The Delta State University Men’s Golf team opened the 2025 fall season in impressive fashion, claiming a second-place finish at the Montevallo Invitational hosted at Timberline Golf Club. The Statesmen posted a three-round team score of 875 (292-286-297).
Leading the way for Delta State was Ty Werynski, who carded rounds of 68 (-3), 69 (-2), and 72 (+1) to finish at 209 (-4), securing second place overall in the individual standings. Werynski’s consistency set the tone, delivering the Statesmen their lowest rounds of the week and earning one of the tournament’s top performances.
Payne Bius added a steady showing, tying for 11th place at 220 (+7), while Peter Blazevic finished tied for 15th with a 223 (+10). Niko Salmi closed strong with a final-round 72 (+1) to finish tied for 21st at 225 (+12).
The Statesmen will be back on the links on the 22nd and the 23rd as they will host the Dunning Invitational at Mossey Oak Golf Course in West Point, Miss.
