Leland community wide litter pick-up date set for April 26
By Guest Columnist Stephanie Patton
The Leland Rotary Club is organizing a community-wide litter pick-up event on Saturday, April 26, and everyone, including other civic organizations, is encouraged to attend.
According to Rotarian Kenner Patton, the litter pick-up event will begin at 8 a.m., and those who would like to volunteer are asked to meet in the parking lot of the Leland Light & Water building on the corner of Main Street and North Deer Creek Drive. The City of Leland will be providing garbage bags.
“We will focus on the creek bank and downtown area, but anyone is welcome to pick up litter in their own Leland neighborhood, if they would like,” said Patton. “This is the weekend before the 2nd Annual Wildlife Heritage Festival, and we want to make sure Leland looks great.”
Volunteers who help pick up litter will only need to bag the litter and place it curb-side, so that the Leland Street & Sanitation department can pick up the bags later. Residents with canoes or kayaks are encouraged to launch them into Deer Creek to pick up trash in the water.
The event will be held rain or shine.
Any questions about the event can be directed to Patton at 662-394-1919.
