Local towing company handles major 18-wheeler rollover in Leland
Just before darkness settled over the Mississippi Delta, the lights of heavy wreckers and emergency equipment illuminated a rural intersection outside of Leland, where crews from Venuti Towing and Recovery, a long-running local wrecker service, recently spent ten hours responding to a difficult 18-wheeler rollover recovery.
The accident involved a fully-loaded 18-wheeler tractor and trailer that overturned on the highway, leaving both the tractor and the trailer resting on their sides.
Using one of the company’s heavy duty rotator wreckers, Venuti Towing and Recovery crews carefully stabilized the trailer before beginning the long process of uprighting and recovering the unit.
“Every moment had to be controlled to prevent further damage to the trailer, roadway and surrounding property, while also ensuring the safety of everyone on scene.” Vince Venuti told The Leland Progress.
The recovery drew attention from passing motorists and local residents as the glow of emergency lighting reflected across the Delta farmland surrounding the scene. For hours, crews remained focused on one objective, safety and efficiency. Highway officials say the most impressive part of the recovery was that the wrecker crews kept an entire lane of traffic open while uprighting both the tractor and the trailer.
Venuti Towing and Recovery, a family-operated company serving the Mississippi Delts since 1946, has built a reputation for handling difficult recoveries throughout the region. Company officials say that operations such as this recent one demonstrate the level of preparation and professionalism required when emergencies happen after dark and under pressure.
Venuti says that, in the towing and recovery industry, most drivers only see the flashing lights for a few moments as they pass by. What they often do not see are the countless hours, technical skill and dedication required behind every major recovery operation, the kind of work that keeps highways moving and communities safe.
