Mayor John Lee and Alderpersons Nancy Jo King, Terron Morris Sr., Barbara Brooks and Johnnie Jones Sr. were at the event. Washington County District Supervisor Mala Brooks was also present and gave some encouraging words.

The Leland Mayor’s Youth Council is sponsored by Tammoral Nealon, who shared with The Leland Progress that her favorite quote to guide the council is by Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

“The “LMYC is a positive avenue for our community to build future leaders.” Alderman Morris stated. He spoke on the positive things that the group had participated in this past year, events such as, Christmas on Deer Creek, the Mississippi Municipal League Conference, Cancer Walk for Girl Scout Troop 33243, Crawfish Festival, and other events, as well. Alderwoman Nancy Jo King stated “Not only is participation in this event positive for the students that are members, but it also creates a positive impact on the younger students looking up to the older students that are involved.”

The banquet’s main speaker was Mayor John Lee; following his address was the presentation of awards by Tammoral Nealon and then a farewell address by Vice Mayor Barbara Brooks.
