MDCC Information Technology Executive Retires From Military After 31 Years of Service
Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) proudly recognizes Executive Director of Information Technology Chief Warrant Officer Three (Ret.) Torrey D. Moore on his retirement from the United States Army Reserve following 31 years of distinguished military service.
Moore was honored during a military retirement ceremony on May 17 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Jackson.
A native of Goodman, Mississippi, Moore enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1995 as a Human Resources Specialist before transitioning to the Warrant Officer Corps in 2006 as an Information Services Technician. Throughout his military career, he served in several leadership and technical assignments, including the 3rd Personnel Command, 365th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, 321st Sustainment Brigade and the 3rd Theater Personnel Operations Center, where he concluded his service as Senior Signal Warrant Officer.
Moore deployed to Camp Doha, Kuwait, from 2002 to 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later to Shindand, Afghanistan, from 2011 to 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a minor in Office Administration from Delta State University and currently serves as Executive Director of Information Technology at Mississippi Delta Community College, where he leads the college’s technology operations and strategic information technology initiatives.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Mississippi Delta Community College family, I extend our sincere congratulations and deepest gratitude to Torrey Moore on his retirement from military service,” said MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones. “His commitment to serving our nation reflects the same dedication, integrity and leadership he demonstrates daily at Mississippi Delta Community College. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and thankful for the sacrifices he and his family have made in service to our country. As he closes this remarkable chapter of military service, we look forward to his continued leadership and contributions to MDCC.”
Reflecting on his military career during the retirement ceremony, Moore emphasized the importance of servant leadership.
“One thing that I have learned is the difference between rank and leadership,” Moore said. “Rank gets you a title; it does not get you respect. People don’t need a boss—they need someone to lead them who also cares about them as a person.”
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Moore has been a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., since 1997 and has remained committed to mentorship, leadership development and community service.
He celebrated his retirement alongside his wife, Linda Thompson-Moore; daughter, Makiya Kirkwood; parents, Terry and Jennette Moore; and brother, Jeremy Moore.
MDCC congratulates Moore on this significant milestone and thanks him for his decades of dedicated service to both the nation and the college.
