Supervisor Brooks discusses sub-grant for Leland

Supervisor, Mala Brooks

Washington County Supervisor Mala Brooks attended the December Leland Board of Alderpersons meeting to discuss a sub-grant for the City of Leland.

Brooks stated that in her District, for the City of Leland, she had approximately $500,000 to spend from the ARPA funds. These funds had to be earmarked by the end of December 2024. She also explained some of the funds will be used for the Home Grant in Washington County, and the application process had already begun.

Two houses have been selected in the Leland area. The first is located in the city limits of Leland. The current structure will be torn down and rebuilt for $150,000. The second house is a mobile home in Elizabeth for $100,000.

Brooks stated that Andrew Smith, grant writer, will oversee and advertise for contractors for the homes. She stated that she would like to utilize the remaining funds, approximately $150,000, on the parks in Leland. She proposed upgrading the Lions Park and also adding a new park between New Town and New Addition.

The vote was put to the Board and passed unanimously.
