$1M loan to benefit power system
Special to The Leland Progress
The City of Leland has secured a $1 million dollar loan to assist with strengthening their power system. Grant monies will also be utilized throughout this process. Bids have been requested, received and approved.
“Approximately $300,000 will be allocated for tree trimming and $700,000 for updating existing equipment,” according to Mayor Kenny Thomas. Residents will soon see the first phase of this project in action: tree trimming.
“Squirrels are causing major issues,” said Alderwoman Nancy Jo King. Removing the overhanging branches will help with this issue. The end goal of these updates is to strengthen Leland’s power grid and decrease frequent outages.
