Barbara Smith Pennington, 89, of Leland, MS passed away July 29th at Delta Regional Health System.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 am at New Zion M. B. Church, Leland, MS.

Barbara was a retired school teacher with a career spanning for 30 years in the Leland School System. She was very active in the church and community . She served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent and church clerk. Barbara was member of the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity and served as Chairperson of the Family Selection Committee.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Herman & Malissa Smith, her sisters, Dorothy McLaurin and Loving Mae Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Rudolph Pennington, son Antonio (Kim) Pennington, granddaughter, Kourtney Pennington. Brothers, Lloyd Smith, Dewayne Kyle and Terry Martin; sisters Hermanell Smith, Iris Smith; other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and very special friend and caregiver, Bertha Palmer.
