A Very Muppet Special comes to Disney+ in 2026
Disney has announced a revival special of The Muppet Show, set to premiere on Disney+ in 2026 in celebration of the original series’ 50th anniversary.
The one-off special will bring the Muppets back to Muppet Theatre to produce a variety show. While it is not yet a full series, Disney said it could act as a backdoor pilot for a new version of the program.
Sabrina Carpenter is confirmed as a guest star and will also serve as an executive producer. Other executive producers include Albertina Rizzo, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures.
Veteran performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will return as the voices behind many of the classic characters. Goelz, who helped originate Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew among others, has performed with the Muppets for more than 50 years.
The special will be produced by 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures. Rizzo will write and executive produce, while Alex Timbers, known for his Broadway work, will direct.
Recent Muppet productions by Disney have included The Muppets Mayhem, Muppets Haunted Mansion, Muppets Now and Muppets on ABC, though several were canceled after one season.
