Belhaven University offers full-ride writing scholarship
Belhaven University is accepting applications for the Angie Thomas Writers Scholarship, a full-ride award for one incoming creative writing major. The scholarship honors Angie Thomas, a 2011 Belhaven graduate and author of The Hate U Give and other New York Times’ best sellers.
Now in its sixth year, the scholarship covers tuition, room and board for four years. Applicants must submit writing samples, and additional partial scholarships may be awarded.
Belhaven, a private Christian university in Jackson’s historic Belhaven neighborhood, is known for its arts programs—including creative writing, dance, theater and music—as well as majors in education, business, nursing and psychology.
The first recipient, Imani Skipwith, said the award changed her college experience.
“It took the financial burden off my parents and let me focus on growing as a writer without extra stress,” Skipwith said.
Applications are due November 14, and the winner will be announced the week of December 15. Details and requirements are available at gobelhaven.com/angie.
