Crews make significant progress on U.S. 82 Greenville Bypass

Construction continues on the U.S. 82 Greenville Bypass in Washington County. The first phase began in March 2022 and provided the construction of nine miles of four-lane roadway from State Route 1 to Leland. Phase II runs from SR 1 to the Mississippi River bridge. It provides cement stabilization and paving of approximately seven miles of the newly-constructed U.S. 82 Greenville Bypass.

Haxton Road, Flannagan Road and State Route 454 have opened to traffic on a new alignment. The entire project has at least two lifts of asphalt. Crews are placing shoulder gravel and installing cable barrier throughout the project. Asphalt operations continue, as weather permits.

“Crews are making significant progress on this massive con-struction project that promises to enhance safety and alleviate traffic throughout the region,” said Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons. “This $216 million project will enhance safety by taking vehicles carrying chemicals and other hazardous products from our communities along U.S. 82.”
The remainder of the project is on track to be completed in fall 2025.
