Jessie King, superintendent of the Leland School District, will continue serving on the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents (MASS) Board of Directors as past president, a role that helps steer one of the state’s most influential education organizations.

MASS, now in its 56th year, supports 139 public school superintendents and more than 2,000 school leaders across the state through professional development, policy advocacy and leadership training. The association works to ensure that Mississippi educators are equipped to meet today’s challenges while advancing the long-term health of the public school system.

King, who has more than three decades of experience in education, will continue collaborating with fellow board members to strengthen public schools, champion educator support and promote legislative action that benefits students across Mississippi.

sidebar“Our board brings together voices from every region of the state to address shared challenges in public education,” said Dr. Phil Burchfield, executive director of MASS. “Mr. King’s leadership has been vital to the board’s work in equipping school leaders for success.”

Board members meet regularly and help shape the organization’s advocacy priorities, ranging from teacher pay increases and certification improvements to leadership development and retention strategies.

“It’s an honor to represent Leland and be part of an organization that gives school leaders a unified voice,” King said. “We’re focused on solutions that support student achievement and improve educational outcomes across Mississippi.”
