The Leland Deacon Alliance joined the Leland Optimist Club during its November meeting to discuss community collaborations and festivities.
Founded in 1998 by two local residents, the nonprofit Leland Deacon Alliance provides assistance to community members in need in many ways including helping with emergency groceries, utility bills and funeral costs. Representatives Harry Williams and Ceotha McWright said the organization continues to rely on fundraisers and community donations.
This year’s annual Christmas Dinner will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Buster Moreno Center. The group hopes to serve about 200 people and invites all residents to attend, stay and enjoy fellowship with neighbors.
The annual Toy Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 20. The group purchases new toys locally at Dollar General but also welcomes donations of new or gently used toys, coats, and clothing for children of all ages.
Donations and checks may be mailed to Leland Deacon Alliance, P.O. Box 302, Leland, MS 38756. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3). For Questions or local pick ups call or text Harry Williams at 662-931-4111 or Ceotha McWright at 662-822-5895.
Meanwhile, the Leland Optimist Club will host its second annual Christmas Sing-Along at the Christmas Tree on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. The club invites families and residents to join in the holiday music, hot cocoa and celebration.
