Mississippi Delta Community College Names Davis “Doc” Beaver Head Softball Coach

beaver davis wMississippi Delta Community College has named Davis “Doc” Beaver as the new head coach of the Trojans softball program.

Beaver brings more than 25 years of coaching experience to MDCC and arrives after a highly successful five-year tenure at Arlington Baptist University in Texas, where he built the institution’s softball program from its inception into a national contender.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Beaver to the MDCC family,” said MDCC Athletic Director Tangela Banks. “His track record of building successful programs, developing student-athletes and creating a championship culture speaks for itself. We believe he is the right leader to guide our softball program into its next chapter.”

Tasked with launching Arlington Baptist’s softball program and assembling a competitive roster in less than 90 days, Beaver quickly established the Patriots as one of the top programs in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). In the program’s inaugural season, he guided the team to a College World Series appearance, becoming the first coach at any level of college softball to lead a first-year program to a World Series berth.

During his five seasons at Arlington Baptist, Beaver led the Patriots to three NCCAA College World Series appearances, two Final Four finishes, three regular-season regional championships and four regional championship game appearances. In 2026, the team finished No. 2 nationally in the NCCAA power ratings.

His teams also earned multiple victories over NCAA Division I opponents and posted a 15-3 record against scholarship-funded NAIA programs during the 2026 season. For his accomplishments, Beaver was named NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year three times, including Central Region Coach of the Year honors in 2026.

Beaver’s coaching experience extends beyond softball. Throughout his career, he has coached or served in leadership roles across six sports, including softball, basketball, football, volleyball, track and cross country. His background includes service as an NCAA Division I assistant basketball coach, an NCAA Division II head basketball coach and a high school athletic director.

Known for his emphasis on accountability, discipline and player development, Beaver has built a reputation for creating cultures that foster both athletic and academic success. His coaching philosophy centers on helping student-athletes focus on continuous improvement, preparation and resilience while developing confidence on and off the field.

“I am honored to join Mississippi Delta Community College and lead the Trojans softball program,” Beaver said. “MDCC has a strong tradition of serving students and its communities, and I am excited to build relationships with our student-athletes while developing a program that competes at a high level and represents the college with pride.”

A native of Texas, Beaver holds a master’s degree in sport management from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
