Sewage and water price increase coming in October

Special to The Leland Progress

Beginning in October, Leland residents will notice a $10 overall increase in their Sewage and Water bill. A public hearing was held September 4. This increase was voted on and passed, as no one voiced any opposition. This marks the first increase of its kind in the last six to seven years.

“Maintaining the system the last few years has been very expensive,” Mayor Kenny Thomas said. Officials say the increase not only assisted in  balancing the City’s budget, but will also help  with making improvements to the outdated system. Even with the increase, officials report that residents’ sewage and water bills will still not be as high as those in surrounding areas.
