St. Joe honors Benny Strazi at Homecoming game

Strazi honored at HC

The life and legacy of Benny Strazi (Coach Strazi) was honored at the Saint Joseph Catholic School Homecoming game this past month. His wife of over five decades, Sharon Strazi, was brought to the center of the field to participate in the honorary coin toss before the beginning of the game.

Coach Strazi spent over two decades at Saint Joseph Catholic School, serving in many different capacities. His most memorable role there was athletic director.

St. Joseph Catholic School honored Coach Strazi by naming the football field for him years ago while he still served as athletic director for the school. With this being the first homecoming game since his passing, he was honored again with his wife Sharon bringing in a coin with his face on it that the Alumni Association had made.

Sharon flipped the coin and just as Coach Strazi would have had it. It landed face up, and the Fighting Irish won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. She was accompanied by her son, Brian Strazi, and a group of Irish senior football captains.

Saint Joseph Catholic School defeated Greenville Christian School in a strong 42-0 win.
