Staff Sergeant Tristan Hughes of Leland has returned home after being deployed overseas for a little over six years of service in the United States Air Force.

Throughout his military career, Hughes has had the opportunity to serve in several locations around the world, including Italy, South Korea and Hawaii. He says his time in the Air Force has allowed him to experience different cultures and environments while carrying out his responsibilities as a member of the United States Air Force Security Forces Squadron.

As a Security Forces member, Hughes served in a role responsible for protecting Air Force personnel, property and resources while helping maintain security at military installations. His service required dedication, discipline and a commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to him.

Military service is more than simply putting on a uniform. It represents a commitment to something larger than oneself and a willingness to make sacrifices in service to the country. Men and women who serve in the armed forces leave behind their families, friends and communities to protect the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by Americans across the nation.

Hughes’ journey is a reminder that people from small towns throughout Mississippi and across the country answer the call to serve their nation.

As Hughes returns home after years of serving around the world, he says he hopes his story serves as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice required of those who wear the uniform.
