WCEA honors local business leaders at annual banquet

The Washington County Economic Alliance recognized several local leaders during its annual meeting and banquet April 17, including Lea Margaret McLaurin Hamilton, who was named Businesswoman of the Year.
Hamilton, a Delta native of Hollandale and founder of SoDelta Candle Company, was recognized for her leadership and contributions to the local business community. The Greenville-based company produces all-natural soy candles inspired by the Mississippi Delta and has grown from a home-based startup into a business with national and international reach.
A graduate of Mississippi State University, Hamilton founded SoDelta after being inspired by soybean fields during a Delta harvest, building the brand around the region’s agricultural landscape and traditions.
In a statement, the company expressed appreciation for the recognition and the community that has supported its growth.
The company said it is “thankful to be part of a supportive community” and attributes its success to that.
Organizers also recognized additional recipients during the annual banquet, highlighting contributions to business and community leadership.
