WWISCAA partners with schools and CAPPS for Workforce Development

WWISCAA, a non-profit agency under the leadership of Jannis Williams, through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), has partnered with the Leland Public School District, the Greenville Public School District and the CAPPS Center to provide an opportunity for students to receive skilled training that would lead to a credential and increase their employability skills in the local workforce.
The WIOA program is under the guidance of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, and South Delta Planning and Development is the designated fiscal agent for the Delta Workforce Development Area. WWISCAA is one of the contracted providers and currently operates both an In-School and Out-of-School Program.

During this past school term, the program had ten Leland High School students receiving Welding Certificates, eighteen Greenville High School received Welding Certificates and twelve received Pharmacy Tech Certificates. All students in the program will receive their high school diplomas and will be provided a summer job through the work experience phase of this program.
According to Jan Vaughn, WWISCAA-WIOA coordinator, as a result of this partnership, these students will be able to enter into the workforce with advanced skills with the capacity to earn above median wages. Additionally, students will also be able to access other needed services to pursue other options such as higher education and military, where these skills and certifications can also be utilized. WWISCAA leaders say they are very proud of all of the participants and will continue to provide support to them through follow up services for twelve months after exit from the program.
